Rules and Expectations

Policy of Non-Discrimination

It is the policy of the Corning Family YMCA to make membership available to all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, status as a veteran or financial circumstances.

Membership

Definition of a Full Facility Member: any person who fills out a membership application, subscribes to the statement of mission, pays membership dues as agreed upon at time of application and participates in the Association through its activities, services and/or financial support.  Full Facility Members shall have unlimited access to the YMCA Facility during hours of operation, except where specific guidelines are in effect, providing their membership remains in good standing.

Membership Dues

Establishment of Membership Dues: The CEO of the Corning Family YMCA shall have the responsibility for recommending, as part of the annual budget, rates for membership dues.  The established rates will then be presented to the Member Services Committee who will review the rates and make a recommendation to the governing Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors will then take action for approval.

Implementation of Dues Increase: any change to the Membership Dues, shall be clearly communicated to the YMCA Members in its entirety, no less than 30 days prior to implementation of the new fee structure.

First Year Dues: The Corning Family YMCA charges an initiation fee of $60 for adult, couple, family and senior Membership Categories.  This fee is non-refundable.

Refund or Extensions: The YMCA may grant a refund of membership dues, or an extension of membership renewal date, when requested by a member due to:

  1. Serious illness, substantiated by a doctors statement indicating the severity and anticipated duration of such illness.
  2. In other cases approved by the CEO or the Director of Member Services.

Conditions of Membership

Membership Cards: The membership card is proof of membership in the YMCA and shall be presented upon entry into the facility.  The membership card may also be presented to borrow equipment while in the YMCA.  If a card is lost, the YMCA will charge for the issuance of a new one.

Membership Duration: The YMCA offers annual membership.  The YMCA may designate a shorter-term membership for a specific purpose such as a summer or holiday membership.  A multiple year membership may not be offered although a member may automatically renew if on a draft or debit system.

Hold of Membership: shall be done for no less than three months and no longer than 12 months.  Reasons for hold are illness, business travel, or temporary relocation. 
The CEO or the Director of Member Services must approve all holds at least one week prior to your draft date.

Cancellation of Membership: shall be done in written form and should be accompanied by the membership card.  Memberships paid on the draft or
debit system agree to give the YMCA 30-days written notice of cancellation, to ensure proper procedures occur with the member’s financial institution.

Re-Admission: When a member renews a membership within one month of the date due, they may be readmitted as a continuing member.  If more than 30 days have elapsed, a person shall be subject to initiation fees.

Suspension or Revocation of Membership: Membership at the Corning Family YMCA is a privilege not a right.   Membership privileges may be suspended or revoked by the CEO.  The length of such suspension or a refund of membership dues or fees will be determined by the same authority.

Refusal of Membership: For the protection of all our members, no person with the status of a Level 3 or a Level 2 Sex Offender shall obtain membership at the Corning Family YMCA.  Persons registered, as a Level 1 Sex Offender will be considered for membership on a case-by-case basis.  Anyone with questions regarding this matter should speak with the CEO or the Director of Member Services.

Member Conduct

General Expectations: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility shall be the basis of all conduct in the Corning Family YMCA.  It shall be expected that individuals will bring any issues or concerns that they have with another member’s choice of behavior to the attention of the YMCA Staff.  It is expected that individuals will bring to the attention of the CEO any issues or concerns they have which apply to the staff of the Corning Family YMCA.

Locker Room Policy:  NO CELL PHONES ARE TO BE USED IN THE LOCKER ROOMS!

  • An adult must supervise children under the age of 5. 
  • Children 5 and older must use the locker room appropriate to his or her gender or with an adult use the Family Locker Room. 
  • Showers must be taken prior to entering the swimming pool. 
  • Food or beverages, other than water, are not permitted in locker rooms. 
  • Do not leave belongings in the dressing areas.  Please make certain that all belongings are put into a locker. 
  • Lockers are for day use only and must be emptied before leaving the facility.  No locks are to be left on overnight. 
  • Please limit shower time.  Turn water all the way off when through and be sure to dry off completely before leaving the shower area. 
  • The YMCA is not responsible for valuables left in the lockers or in any other area of the YMCA.  Please leave valuables in a security bag, (provided by the YMCA) located at the YMCA Courtesy Desk.

Family Locker Room Policy:  NO CELL PHONES ARE TO BE USED IN THE LOCKER ROOMS!

  • The Family Locker Room is provided for use by families with children aged three months through 12 years.  This room is available when you prefer to not use the appropriate gender locker room for your children. 
  • A parent or adult guardian must supervise children. 
  • Food or beverages, other than water, are not permitted in the locker room. 
  • Please limit changing time to 15 minutes to accommodate other families who may be waiting 
  • Each family should try to utilize one locker, as the number of lockers is very limited. 
  • Open lockers are for day use and must be emptied before leaving the facility.  No locks are to be left on overnight.
  • Please dry off completely before leaving shower area. 
  • The YMCA is not responsible for valuables left in the lockers or in any other area of the YMCA. Please leave valuables in the blue security bags

Facility rules

YMCA RULES AND REGULATIONS

All members are subject to the general rules and regulations established by the

Member Service Committee. These rules and policies are subject to change at the discretion of the committee.

Member Resignation/Termination:
Voluntary Resignation: 30 day written notice and clearing of outstanding debts is required. Resignation is effective on your draft date of the next month, following written notification.

Involuntary Termination: Any member may be terminated for non-payment of dues or for violation of YMCA rules and regulations.

Tobacco Policy: The Corning YMCA is a tobacco free facility.

Conduct: Proper etiquette, language and courtesy are to be practiced at all times.

Attire: Appropriate attire and non-marking gym shoes shall be worn in the YMCA. Closed toe shoes must be worn in all workout areas. Sports bras must be dark in color and only worn while running.  Clothing with any exposed metal will not be allowed. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times except in pool area.

Posted Material: Non YMCA material may be posted in the YMCA with the express permission of the YMCA Senior Staff.

Drink Containers/Food: Open containers, cups or glass bottles, as well as food are permitted in  vending area only.

Personal Trainers: The Corning YMCA has certified personal trainers on staff to work with Full Facility members interested in purchasing this
service.

YMCA AQUATIC CENTER RULES

Use of swim diapers: It is recommended that parents take their children to the restrooms every 20 minutes while using the aquatic facilities.  Children who are not potty trained or are 2 and under must wear a swim diaper in the pool at all times. Swim diapers are sold at the Courtesy Desk.

Use of locker rooms:
Children 5 and over must use gender appropriate locker rooms, or with a parent/adult guardian use the family locker room.

Use of pool:
Children 7 - 12 years old may use the pool without a parent or guardian in the pool area, a parent or guardian must be in the YMCA facility. Child must pass a YMCA swim test with each visit to the pool.  Parent MUST be present for each test!

Children 7 - 12 years old who have not passed the swim test must have a parent or guardian present in the pool area at all times.

Children 6 years old and under must have a parent in the water with them at all times.

Use of steam, sauna or spa by children:
Children under 6 may not use steam, sauna or spa.

Children 6-11 must have a parent or guardian physically with them to use the steam, sauna or spa.

Children 12-14 may use the steam, sauna or spa, but parent or guardian must be in the YMCA facility at the time of use.

Woman who are or may be Pregnant are not allowed to use the steam, sauna or spa.

YMCA TRACK USAGE

Track Direction: Please follow the track directional arrows posted at the South and East ends of the track.

Walking/Jogging Lanes: Walkers use inside blue lane. Joggers and runners use 3 outside white lanes.

YMCA FITNESS CENTER

Use of Fitness Center by Youth:

Youth MUST be 5’0” or taller, regardless of age to use Nautilus Equipment.
Youth 11 and older are welcome to use the cardio vascular equipment only.
Youth 14 and older are welcome to use all fitness center equipment.
Orientation is required for all members before equipment may be used.
